PEEK COATINGS

Performance Polymers and Coatings apply  PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) coating to a substrate to create a protective outer layer.

PEEK (polyetheretherketone) is a robust, rigid thermoplastic material. Because PEEK has superior chemical resistance – as well as resistance to steam and water, it is often used in applications where performance at elevated temperatures is required. PEEK polymer is a linear, aromatic, semi-crystalline thermoplastic, widely regarded as one of the highest performing thermoplastic materials in the world. It offers a unique combination of properties.

Some useful properties of PEEK in Coated substrates:

  1. It has low outgassing and extractablesand is  specifically useful where high purity and low contamination levels are key requirements.
  2. Its conforms to RoHS compliance for use of material as coating.
  3. It has exceptional abrasion resistanceand is therefore very hard, tough, and scratch resistant.
  4. Excellent mechanical Propertiescompared to other fluoropolymers and thermoplastics, including wear, creep and cut through resistance. It is extremely durable at high temperatures.
  5. Peek provides excellent wear surface– an excellent wear counter face to hard surfaces like steel and ceramics. Further it is non-galling with low particulation and non-sloughing.
  6. Peek offers good lubricitywith its  smooth and uniform surface.
  7. Peek provides a high load bearing surface– one of the strongest thermoplastic coatings on the market. Very resistant to creep and flow caused by compression.
  8. It has an excellent radiation resistancewhere some of its formulations can withstand high doses of Gamma radiation (> 109 Rads) without embrittlement.
  9. High Temperature Performance– one of the highest performing polymers available where continuous high temperature performance up to 260°C is required. Withstands lead-free soldering temperatures.
  10. Peek has Very Good Chemical Resistance and is insoluble in all common solvents. Excellent resistance to acids, bases, hydrocarbons, salts and steam.
  11. It has good electrical insulative propertiesover a wide range of temperatures, frequencies and humidity.
  12. PEEK conforms to FDA compliance– the majority of PEEK grades can be used in environments involving food contact.
  13. PEEK has low moisture absorption and excellent hydrolysis resistance; Its properties are unaffected by exposure to water, humidity and steam.

PEEK COATINGS

This type of coating is typically used to improve resistance to chemicals, corrosion, abrasion and wear when applied to metal substrates.

Typical coating thickness ranges from 300μm to 500μm for powders and 25μm to 75μm for liquid dispersions. Typical coating thickness tolerance is ± 25μm on thin coats and ± 125μm on thick coats.
