Performance Polymers and Coatings is an applicator of ETFE Coatings for over two decades.
Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) is a fluoropolymer coating known for its exceptional chemical resistance, high durability, and lightweight properties The toughest of the fluoropolymers. Very chemically resistant.
ETFE, also known by the trade name Tefzel®, is a thermoplastic copolymer coating that delivers a chemical inertness comparable to PTFE and other fluoropolymers, while also providing excellent mechanical strength, stiffness, and abrasion resistance.
Although not fully fluorinated, ETFE coatings have excellent chemical resistance and can operate at 150°C. The resins within these coatings are the toughest within the fluoropolymer range and can be applied at film builds up to 1,000 micro-meters. ETFE is available in powder form. They have excellent chemical resistance and durability; can be applied in thick films (0.020”++); and have good dielectric strength (1500V/mil).
This added strength comes into play in processing applications where frequent physical impact or contact with abrasive materials would accelerate wear and degradation of traditional fluoropolymers. ETFE has a continuous-use temperature range from -100ºC to 150ºC, making it appropriate for use in a wide range of chemical processing applications.
Often specified for use on vessels and tanks containing very aggressive solvents, or on a surface that is attacked by some type of chemistry, these coatings are generally used in applications which do not require characteristics such as low coefficient of friction or an application requiring a thin-film coating. This type of coating should be considered for a broad range of applications where you need the benefits of the qualities like high performance thermal, chemical and electrical properties as well as outstanding mechanical toughness.
ETFE coatings are an advanced solution for industries requiring high-performance materials with durability, chemical resistance, and environmental adaptability.
